Naveen Patnaik, the Leader of the Opposition in Odisha, reached out to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, requesting her intervention regarding the potato supply crisis in Odisha. The BJP criticized Patnaik's approach, accusing the BJD of failing to establish enough cold storage facilities and launching ineffective agricultural initiatives. As a result, retail potato prices in Odisha have skyrocketed to Rs 45-50 per kilogram, burdening ordinary citizens.
In response to the rising potato prices in Odisha, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik sent a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, requesting her intervention to address the supply issues affecting the state.
However, the ruling BJP criticized Patnaik's move, dismissing it as cheap politics. According to the BJP, the BJD is entirely responsible for the current situation in the state, citing their failure to establish adequate cold storage facilities and the complete failure of potato and onion missions during their 24-year tenure.
"It has been learnt that former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written a letter to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to solve the potato crisis. This kind of cheap politics should be stopped. They (BJD) have not solved any crisis during their tenure of 24 years. Potato and Onion Missions undertaken during their period have failed,” stated by Odisha Food Suppliers and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.
“As a result, people didn’t vote for you and you are in the Opposition chair. This kind of drama should be stopped. Nothing will happen by writing a letter. You are not in a position to write the letter,” he mentioned.
