In an effort to boost the tiger population, five Royal Bengal tigers will be relocated to Odisha's Debrigarh and Similipal from two different states. Susanta Nanda, PCCF Wildlife, announced on Wednesday that the tigers will be brought from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Previously, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) had approved this initiative.
“We had requested Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra for the tigers and they have given their consent. The tigers have been selected from the core area as well,” Nanda Said!
Nanda mentioned that a team from Odisha will visit the states to inspect the tigers, with the expectation that the program to enhance the genetic pool at Similipal will be underway by the end of September.
