Contenders for BJP Chief Minister of Odisha: Key Names Emerge as Swearing-In Ceremony Nears
As anticipation grows regarding who will become the first BJP Chief Minister of Odisha, the party is already making extensive arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony.

The BJP plans to turn the event into a grand affair and has selected the vast open ground of Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, which can host a large crowd.

While PM Modi has declared that the new CM of Odisha will be sworn in on June 10, the final decision on the candidate remains unclear. Attention is focused on the party's parliamentary board meeting in Delhi on Thursday.

The list of contenders continues to expand.

While former Union minister and recently elected MP from Sambalpur, Dharmendra Pradhan, remains a leading candidate, several new names have surfaced in recent days.

State BJP chief Manmohan Samal, known for his decisive opposition to a potential alliance with BJD, is also in the running. However, his election loss is a significant drawback.

Another name being discussed is Girish Chandra Murmu, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India and Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who hails from Odisha.

Here are other prominent candidates:

KV Singh Deo: A six-time MLA with ministerial experience in key areas like Industries and Urban Development, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo is from the erstwhile royal family of Patna (princely state), Balangir. His seniority and contributions to the BJP's growth in Odisha make him a strong candidate for the Chief Minister's position.

Mohan Majhi: A veteran politician and influential tribal leader, Mohan Majhi's extensive public service and organizational abilities position him as a viable Chief Ministerial candidate. He is serving his fourth term in the Assembly.

Rabi Narayan Naik: Known for his grassroots activism, Rabi Naik is another significant tribal leader and four-time MLA. His rise within the BJP's Odisha unit marks him as a potential dark horse for the Chief Minister's role.

Surama Padhy: A prominent figure within the BJP, Surama Padhy's grassroots connections and advocacy for social issues could make her a compelling choice, especially if the party opts for a female Chief Minister. A two-time MLA, she has also served as the national president of BJP Mahila Morcha and the state president of the women's wing.
