Modi's Varanasi Victory: A Third Term Secured
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive term.He triumphed over Ajay Rai of Congress by more than 1.5 lakh votes.
As per the Election Commission data, PM Modi garnered 6,12,970 votes.
Ather Jamal Lari of the Bahujan Samaj Party came in third, trailing the Prime Minister by almost 5.8 lakh votes.
Ajay Rai, who has unsuccessfully contested the last three general elections from Varanasi, asserted that his success was reflected in the outcomes.
In 2019, six candidates stood against PM Modi in Varanasi, which had become his gateway to national prominence in 2014. PM Modi secured 63.6 percent of the votes, with Shalini Yadav of the Samajwadi Party being the runner-up.
In 2014, PM Modi received 56.37 percent of the votes, winning by a margin of 3.72 lakh. His primary opponent at the time was Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal.
