New Deputy Chief Ministers and Chief Minister Announced for Odisha
On Tuesday, BJP leaders Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo and Pravati Parida were appointed as the new Deputy Chief Ministers of Odisha.At a legislative meeting in Bhubaneswar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced Mohan Charan Majhi as the new Chief Minister of the state.
Earlier that day, the BJP legislature party convened to choose Odisha's chief minister, with Rajnath Singh and BJP leader Bhupender Yadav in attendance.
Singhdeo emerged victorious in the 2024 Assembly elections from the Patnagarh constituency in Bolangir, securing 93,823 votes. Pravati Parida won the elections from Nimapara in Puri with a total of 95,430 votes.
KV Singhdeo's win was particularly close, with a margin of just 1,357 votes over BJD's Saroj Kumar Meher.
In contrast, Pravati Parida defeated BJD's Dillip Kumar Nayak by a more comfortable margin of 4,588 votes.
KV Singhdeo previously served as the president of the BJP's state unit from 2013 to 2016 and was a cabinet minister in the Odisha Assembly from 2000 to 2009, during the period when the BJD was part of the National Democratic Alliance.
