The event took place in front of the state Congress headquarters, where the BJP was conducting a demonstration in response to Gandhi's comments. "As we were organizing a peaceful protest outside Congress Bhawan, our workers were attacked with stones."
State BJYM president Abhilash Panda claimed that some police officers and journalists were also assaulted. "We demand an unconditional apology from Rahul Gandhi for insulting and hurting Hindus," he stated.
A complaint has been filed at the Capital police station against Congress workers for their involvement in the violence, according to another BJP leader.
In addition to stones, both groups also hurled cow dung at each other. Cow dung was thrown at a hoarding of Gandhi, which Congress workers later cleaned with milk.
Police faced significant challenges in controlling the situation.
NSUI state president Yashir Nawaz stated, "Everyone has the right to protest. However, we have never witnessed a protest as violent as the one organized by the BJP today. The voters who supported the BJP will respond appropriately."
In his inaugural speech as the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Gandhi had fiercely criticized the BJP, accusing its leaders of dividing people along communal lines.
His comments provoked significant protests from the treasury benches, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticizing the Congress leader for allegedly labeling the entire Hindu community as violent. Gandhi, however, clarified that his remarks were specifically directed at the BJP.
