On Friday, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj inaugurated 14 new Government Degree colleges across eight districts in the state. According to an official press release, Minister Suraj conducted the inaugurations via video conferencing. The new colleges are located in Tiring (Mayurbhanj district), Thuamul Rampur (Kalahandi district), Gurundia and Nuagaon (Sundargarh district), Bandhugaon and Narayanpatna (Koraput district), Jharigaon, Kosagumuda, Raighar, and Tentulikhunti (Nabarangpur district), Kashipur and Ramanaguda (Rayagada district), Dharakote (Ganjam district), and Khajuripada (Kandhamal district).
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized that education is the sole medium through which youth can empower themselves and bring about societal change. He added that the establishment of these 14 new Government Degree colleges in remote areas will revolutionize education. Suraj further mentioned that these colleges will not only spark interest in higher education among students but also help reduce the dropout rate.
The Minister extended his best wishes to the principals and students of the new Degree Colleges, as well as to government officers and people's representatives, through video conferencing.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Arvind Agarwal, remarked that the establishment of Degree colleges in 14 blocks across 8 districts has made education accessible to students in remote regions of Odisha. He congratulated the students and urged them to work hard to secure a bright future.
Bonai MLA Laxman Munda and Lakhmipur MLA Pabitra Saunta participated in the program virtually, expressing gratitude to the Minister of the Higher Education Department. They commended the government's initiative, describing it as a revolutionary step in the field of education. Additionally, the newly appointed principals and newly enrolled students shared their experiences and thanked the Higher Education Department authorities.
The program was attended by all officers and employees of the Higher Education Department, the Collectors of the respective districts, and Block Development Officers.
Snigdha Champatarai, Joint Secretary of Higher Education, delivered the vote of thanks to conclude the program.
