"Is There Still Hope for Vinesh Phogat? Indian Wrestling Star Might Clinch Olympics Silver Medal If..."
Vinesh, who was disqualified from her 50kg category gold medal match at the Olympics on Wednesday for being 100 grams overweight, has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight ahead of her 50 kg category gold medal bout on Wednesday (August 7), still has a chance to win a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

According to the latest update on Thursday, Vinesh appealed her disqualification to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on two counts. The first appeal was to allow her to weigh in again, which the court rejected, stating that the decision was final and the gold medal match would proceed as scheduled.

The second appeal was to award her a silver medal because she had met the weight requirements during the weigh-in on Tuesday. The CAS has stated that it will deliberate on this matter.

An ad hoc division of CAS has been established in Paris to resolve any disputes arising during the Olympic Games.

Earlier on Thursday morning, Vinesh announced her decision to retire from wrestling, stating that she no longer has the strength to continue.

Addressing her mother Premlata, Vinesh wrote in a post on X: "Maa, wrestling has won, I have lost. Please forgive me, your dreams and my courage, everything is broken."

"I don't have any more strength now.
Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I shall be indebted to you all. Forgive (me)," she added!
