Severe Rainfall Warnings for Odisha: August 23-26, 2024

Due to a series of cyclonic circulations over Odisha, the weather department has predicted that many areas of the state will likely face heavy rainfall over the next five to six days.

The Regional Centre of the India Meteorological Department has forecasted that the low-pressure area over northern Bangladesh and nearby regions remains in the same location. The related cyclonic circulation extends up to 9.4 km above sea level. This system is expected to move westward across West Bengal within the next 48 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to extend through Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Orai, Siddhi, and Gaya, passing over the center of a low-pressure area in northern Bangladesh and nearby regions. It then stretches southeastward to the northeast Bay of Bengal, reaching up to 0.9 km above mean sea level.

A cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over the North Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas around August 24th.

In the next 24 hours, many places are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
