Students' Union Elections to Return in Odisha After Eight-Year Hiatus, Announces Law Minister
State Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced that after an eight-year break, Students' Union elections will be held in Odisha next year. These elections, which are usually held in the first week of September, were delayed due to the new BJP government's busy schedule. Colleges will now begin preparations for the upcoming elections.State Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced on Monday that the Students' Union election will be held in Odisha next year, almost eight years after the last one.
The Law Minister made this announcement during a program in Jajpur.
Speaking to the media, Harichandan stated:- "The elections are usually held in the first week of September every year. After the BJP formed the government, we did not get enough time to look into it this year. Colleges will be prepared for the polls this year and elections will be held next year."
"A decision in this regard has already been made and the students' union election will be held from next year,” minister added.
It is important to note that students' union elections have not been held in Odisha since 2018 in order to maintain peace on campuses.
The students’ union election was postponed in 2018 due to Cyclone Titli, and the state government decided to cancel it again in 2019.
