Lighting System Uninstalled at Puri Srimandir Following Odisha's Government Change

More than 500 focus lights used in the Puri Srimandir Parikrama Project were reportedly removed shortly after a change in government in Odisha.

A significant number of focus lights were employed in the Puri Srimandir Parikrama Project to improve the visual connection between devotees and the Jagannath temple.

These lights, installed around the 12th-century shrine, not only enhanced the temple's beauty but also allowed it to be clearly seen from the Meghanada Pacheri, with even the Neela Chakra (Blue Wheel) being visible in complete darkness.

However, following the change in the State government, the lighting system has allegedly been discontinued, and the contractor has reportedly removed the lights. As a result, the Jagannath Temple is no longer illuminated as it once was. The temple administration has yet to provide a statement on this matter.

It is worth noting that former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Rs 800 crore Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa, also known as the Jagannath Temple Heritage Corridor project, on January 17.
